Welcome to The K!nky Workshop, for a higher education in smacking those you love. Helping to educate and inform those interested in BDSM while doing so in a safe and knowledgeable manor.
Description: Wax play is a form of temperature play practiced within the BDSM community where one pours melted wax onto their partner in order to create a burning sensation. When participating in wax play one should make sure to only use a candle that is made for wax play specifically or what is known as a safety candle. Other candles can have toxic chemicals and dyes that are harmful. Other types of candles can also have a higher melting point temperature, making the wax too hot to safely use on one’s skin.
Area of Use: Wax can safely be used on most parts of the body except for one’s face. It is recommended to avoid hairy areas or to shave before wax play. Trying to remove dried wax from hair can be difficult and painful, in a not so good way.
Play Type: Wax play can be considered both sensation and pain play. To control the pain level and sensation one’s partner feels during wax play there are several techniques. For a light sensation, one should hold the candle about a foot from their partner’s skin while holding the candle parallel to their partner. For a hotter temperature and sting, one could bring the candle closer to the skin allowing less time for it to cool before impact. For a splatter effect, where the candle wax hits the skin with more force and bounces from one spot to another, one can hold the candle further away from their partner’s skin. To create a long-lasting burning sensation, one can hold the candle upright allowing the wax to create a pool before turning it back parallel. This will allow a large amount of wax to hit the body at once in the same area causing the wax to take longer to dry on the skin.
Aftercare: Wax play can cause sensitive skin, so it is best to end this type of play by giving one’s partner a massage with aloe vera or sunburn cream to help soothe any irritation. Finally, always incorporate any regular aftercare that you and your partner have discussed in order to help them recover after a play session.
Maintenance: While wax candles are very low maintenance, simply store them in a dry area in a bag. The cleanup can be another story. It is best to play on designated wax sheets or wooden floors because wax can be difficult to get out of carpet and fabrics. It’s also important to note that all wax play should be done in a safe and open area where there is little chance of starting a fire, with that said you should have a way to quickly put out a fire on hand as a precaution.
